Privacy Policy
PhotoCargo is a Mac app by Ashutosh Kumar (“we”). In short: PhotoCargo doesn’t collect your data. Your photos, and the records of what was copied, stay on your Mac and the drives you choose.
The app collects nothing
PhotoCargo has no accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking, and contains no third-party code that collects data. We run no servers for the app. The app doesn’t send your photos, details about your library or how you use the app to us or to anyone else.
What the app uses on your Mac
- Your Photos library. With your permission, PhotoCargo reads details of the items in your library, such as dates, types, sizes, file names, favorites and the albums they’re in, to show totals and find the items you choose. It reads original files only for the items it copies. It never changes or deletes anything in your library. You can turn access off at any time in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos.
- Folders you choose. PhotoCargo writes copies only to folders you select, and reads them back to verify them.
- Transfer records. To resume, verify and repair transfers, PhotoCargo keeps a record of each transfer, such as the items copied and their Photos library IDs, the copies’ names and folders, and their checksums, in its private storage on your Mac. These records stay on your Mac unless you save a recovery backup, and PhotoCargo never sends them anywhere.
- Recovery backups. If you choose Save Recovery Backup, PhotoCargo saves a transfer’s records where you choose. A backup contains that transfer’s records, such as its settings, file and folder names, Photos library IDs, dates taken and checksums, but no photos or videos, so keep it as private as the copies themselves.
- Notifications. If you turn them on, PhotoCargo shows a notification on your Mac when a transfer finishes or pauses. Notifications contain no file names.
Services provided by Apple
PhotoCargo relies on Apple for two things, which are covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy:
- iCloud Photos. When an original is stored in iCloud, Photos downloads it for PhotoCargo through your iCloud account.
- The App Store. The App Store tells PhotoCargo the price of Unlimited and whether you’ve bought it, and Apple processes the purchase and Restore Purchases. We never see your payment details, and the sales reports Apple gives us don’t identify you.
If you choose to share analytics with app developers in your Mac’s settings, Apple may share crash reports and similar diagnostics with us. We use them only to fix problems.
